‘No explosives’ found in suspect package at Copenhagen scene of attack

A suspect package has been found outside a cafe in Copenhagen, the scene of an attack on Saturday, Reuters reported. Police said they found no explosives after the area was evacuated. Copenhagen has been on high alert since the suspect shooter in two attacks at the weekend was shot dead.

Prosecutors demand 10-year jail sentence for opposition activist Navalny

The Prosecutor’s Office has demanded from the Moscow City Court that brothers Aleksey and Oleg Navalny be imprisoned for 10 and eight years respectively, TASS quoted Judge Ekaterina Fisenko as saying on Tuesday. The prosecutors also demand that the Navalny brothers be found guilty in the Yves Rocher fraud case, saying that their actions were “aimed at embezzlement.” Aleksey Navalny is appealing the suspended sentence he was given in a theft case, which he describes as politically-motivated.

Gas pipeline explosion leaves Damascus powerless

Damascus has been left without power after a gas line south of the city was blown up by rebel fighters, Syrian Ministry of Electricity confirmed. The ministry added that armed groups had been targeting gas line south of the capital, calling it a “sabotage by armed groups” on its Facebook page. Authorities are doing their best to restart the power supply to the city. The sabotage occurred on the pipeline feeding the Tishreen thermal power plant, a police source told Sputnik.

Turkish military to check ‘Russian troop activities’ in Rostov Region

Turkish experts will be checking on February 17-19 whether Russian armed forces conduct “any military activities” in the southern Rostov Region and Krasnodar Territory, RIA Novosti reported. The area for the inspection is 14,000 sq km, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. This is the second inspection in the region in 2015, conducted in line with Vienna agreements signed in 2011. Ukrainian military checked the area in Rostov Region on February 9-12 and found no violations of the military activities.
