India Failed in INFRA SHARING in Telecom-Internet Sector
March11, 2015 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com

It is strange Telecom Department has not yet understood the fact that in Telecom and Internet Infrastructure Sharing Is Most Critical and there are international protocols to connect the consumers or people over entire globe.

For example for almost hundred years since the invention of Telephone or Telegraph earlier messages were conveyed across globe over lines owned by hundreds of operators who were sharing Infra to connect consumers or people worldwide.

In power sector Infrastructure Is Most Homogeneously Shared, thousands of generators feed power in to the grid and thousands of power lines also owned by different operators connect consumers to generators, power then flows in different directions to reach all the connected consumers at standard voltage and frequency.

But Mobile Phone or Internet Companies in India are not sharing Infrastructure Provided and 4-5 Monopoly Operators haveRESTRICTED INTER-CONNECT.

Firstly Mobile operators continue to charge ‘Roaming Charges’ – for example Delhi registered Mobile Phone consumer making call from Chandigarh to Mumbai is Charged for Call to Delhi and also Delhi to Mumbai.

Secondly Mobile Phones are not connected to the nearest tower that may be operated by different operator, when it is possible toShare Towers, Telephone Switching and Interconnecting Fiber Optic Wires.

Third Internet Traffic is routed to Consumers through most EXPENSIVE ROUTE via 2G or now 3G Mobile Connections – 99% of the traffic is routed through Optic Fiber but Not Routed through Cheap Optic Fiber and Wire Lines to Consumers Computers and Self Owned Common WIFI Router serving several devices owned by the family.

Fourth RailTel and Power Grid has built Optic Fiber network since 2002 and even after 12-13 years not put to use for Mobile or Land Telephone and Internet or Broadband.

Fifth it was possible to connect all Villages by 4G services all India required was Implementation of 4G Networks and 0.6 million 4G Router to provide WIFI connections to all consumers in every village.

Sixth in cities 5-6 Monopoly Operators have all laid Optic Fiber Wires not providing last 100 meters of Wire Connections and theirOptic Fibers are Grossly Underutilized.

Seventh in Delhi we could have Singapore like Broadband Services using ETHERNET or Cable Connections for over 10 years.

Eighth Quality of 2G Mobile Phones has SUFFERED since large scale use of SPECTRUM for Internet Use.

Ninth 3G and 4G are hugely expensive when WIFI router that can serve 10-12 devises cost just Rs.1000 only – India could save say$500b by 2020.

Tenth it is important Optic Fiber based Broadband is Most SECURE & RELIABLE also.
