Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today with 85-year old Holocaust survivor Avraham Niederhoper, originally from Romania. When he was 11, he was taken on a freight train to Moldova and from there to the Shargorod ghetto in Ukraine. Niederhoper told the Prime Minister that after surviving the Holocaust he walked back to Romania. Upon coming to Israel he worked at the Construction and Housing Ministry as an engineer and a construction supervisor.
Prime Minister Netanyahu had invited Niederhoper to today’s meeting in the wake of the latter’s request via the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the end of their meeting, the Prime Minister presented him with a copy of Rabbi Phil Chernofsky’s book “And Every Single One Was Someone”, which he had received several years ago, in which the word “Jew” is written 6 million times.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said, “There is only one word in this book – Jew, repeated six million times. I keep it here to remember, not only to remember, but to prevent. What they did to you, they want to do to us. Today it is possible to fight; then it was not.”

India China Conversations: Symposium for Emerging Scholars

See detailed event schedule below:
The Fourth Interdisciplinary Symposium for Emerging Scholars on India China Studies is part of ICI’s continuing commitment to build a community of scholars who are engaged in research that focuses on new and innovative approaches to understanding India-China relations. Presenters selected for this symposium share a broad interest in India-China relations in a globalizing world. The symposium will provide a platform for a select group of early career scholars from India, China, and the United States to present their work and to participate in multi-disciplinary investigation and deliberation with distinguished scholars.
When discussing the work of each of the presenters, we hope to identify relevant methodological and substantive questions, and where possible answers, through a productive confrontation of diverse disciplinary perspectives. Relevant cross-cutting themes will include that of the role to be played by received and privileged spatial and institutional frames, such as that of the nation-state, in scholarly analyses within the field, and that of how to relate historical and contemporary concerns while avoiding anachronistic fallacies.
We hope that the symposium will provide a milestone in the intellectual definition and institutional development of the field, enhance the sense of community within it, and help to foster more productive directions for teaching and scholarship.
The Fourth Interdisciplinary Symposium for Emerging Scholars on India China Studies is generously supported by the Starr Foundation.

Women in Agriculture Making a Difference
By Mary Bowen, K-State Master of Agribusiness
Women are increasingly playing a vital role in the food, animal health and agribusiness industry. Dana Brooks is from a small town in the southeast Arkansas Delta region, where she grew up working in cotton, rice and catfish farming agribusinesses.
After high school, Brooks went to work for a local grain elevator and became interested in grain merchandizing, commodity trading, and farm policy. Attending a local university part-time while working full-time, she obtained her degree in agriculture from University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1996.
Upon graduation, Brooks joined Riceland Foods Inc. in Stuttgart, Ark., as a grain merchandiser. Though merchandising was her dream job, a series of unfortunate events, including the untimely death of Brooks’ father in a 1996 farming accident, necessitated a move closer to home. In 2000, Brooks was contacted about going to Washington, D.C., to become the agriculture and trade legislative assistant for a congressman from Arkansas on the House of Representative’s Agriculture Committee. She’s been representing agriculture in Washington, D.C. ever since.
To stay current and competitive in her position, Brooks considered returning to school for more education. “It was frightening to decide to go back to school at 40 years old, but I had a desire to be competitive in the current Washington, D.C., job market. I had been looking at different programs from law school to an MBA for more than decade.

Plan your Summer Holidays and Witness 8th New Wonder of the World
– Great Wildebeest Migration –
All India, 15th April 2015 : The Great Annual migration of Wildebeest in Kenya is the most exhilarating East African safari event that tops the list of a wildlife spectacle like no other. This annual natural event takes place between the months of July to September and involves millions of wildebeest accompanied by hundreds of zebra, antelope species of gazelles, impala and elands with their newly-born young as they attempt to cross the vast Tanzania’s Serengeti plains northwards into Kenya’s Maasai Mara National reserve in search of food and water.
It’s a tough journey, and every year an estimated 250,000 wildebeest don’t make it. This is one of the highlights as the animals try and cross the Mara River alive. The Maasai Mara form what no other reserve in Africa can! It is incredible, it is magic and it is indescribable.
Nowhere in the world is there a movement of animals as immense as the wildebeest migration. The animals have to cross the Mara River in the Maasai Mara where crocodiles prey on them. This is one of the highlights as the animals try and cross the Mara River alive.
The migrating herds undergo all manner of challenges and hardships as they move from region to region. They are constantly under attack from predators, none more so than from Africa’s big cats and the notoriously huge crocodiles that lie in wait at various river crossing points. But still every year, the cycle is repeated, with the animals following their strong migratory instinct and attempting to defy crocodile-infested rivers, wild currents, and flocks of predators lying in wait.
There are plenty of well-located accommodations in the Maasai Mara to enable the tourists to experience the migration, and nearly all scheduled tours and safaris to the country include excursions into the conservation areas.
July to October, the grazing animals take a four-month-long trek towards the Mara River. In desperate need of water to drink and grass to graze, the countless herds need to cross the river to reach the lush, green grasslands in Maasai Mara. The world’s most spectacular sight is the mass crossing of the swollen Mara River.
Wildebeest Migration is a sight to behold when on your wildlife safari and it’s even more awesome watching it on the ground or with Mara balloon Safaris. Watching this wonder from the sky is a life time experience. Maasai Mara Balloon safari is known as one of the best safari experiences in the world & watching the migration there is simply great. Hot Air balloon provides an aerial view of the “Greatest Game Show on Earth”.
The wildebeest migration phenomenon is so huge that satellites miles away in space are able to capture the surge as a black moving mass on the plains of East Africa. Going on safari to view & witness the Wildebeest migration is the ultimate safari experience that Kenya has to offer.

IIT Bombay Alumni Association launches
Global Business Forum

  • 13 participating countries: As UK, USA, Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, India, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, UAE, Thailand and Switzerland

  • 1500 attendees: Eminent global IITB alumni, faculty, researchers, policy makers, bureaucrats, investors, entrepreneurs, chief technical officers, top industrialists, central cabinet ministers and state chief ministers

  • 200 industry partners
  • 50 global experts

New Delhi, April 15, 2015: IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA) announced the launch of Global Business Forum (GBF). The Forum is a platform that will showcase original technology businesses and research from IIT Bombay community – alumni, faculty and students – with an aim to improve collaboration/partnerships between business, governments and academia and thus drive innovation.
Endorsed by Hon. Defence Minister also an eminent alumnus of IIT Bombay, Shri Manohar Parrikar, GBF was launched at a press conference in presence ofProf. D.B. Phatak, educationist and distinguished professor of IIT Bombay, Dr. Ajit Ranade, President and Chief Economist, Aditya Birla Group and Mr. Ashank Desai, Founder and former Chairman, Mastek Limited.
Endorsing the initiative, Shri Parrikar said, ‘This Forum, in a way, reflects a perspective that has guided my approach as well.  Even as India continues to face enormous challenges, even as many Indians still endure problems of a nation in transition, even as we work together to meet those challenges, we cannot lose sight of the new India that’s emerging.

I want to see this Forum grow from strength to strength. I want industry, academia, governments, nations and the IIT Bombay community to come together and commit themselves to ‘interactions, insights and impacts through innovative technology and business’ which is what GBF stands for.’
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Phatak said, ‘In its quest for leadership in technology and manufacturing, India must strive for closer ties between its education sector, industry and government. Development, now a days, seems to have become the agenda only of the government. We need to change that. Our trilogy, academia, industry and government needs to align themselves to make it everyone`s agenda. It should be a people`s movement.

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. With that as it’s guiding principle, GBF will act as a trusted partner for all communities to collaborate, catalyze and integrate global, regional and industry transformation processes.’
Through GBF, representatives from national and international businesses, trade delegations, academia and governments  will be able to link directly with latest innovations in technology, explore collaborations and seal partnerships through a single platform. Every stakeholder present can therefore cut across layers of processes, procedures and red tape to connect, collaborate and close deals.
GBF by design is a multi-disciplinary platform that works through its Special Interest Groups (SIGs). This continuous round the year interaction culminates in an annual, by-invitation only event. This year the Forum will be held between 16 and 18 October at the scenic beach capital – Goa.
It will be attended by 1500 eminent global IITB alumni, faculty, researchers, policy makers, bureaucrats, investors, entrepreneurs, chief technical officers, top industrialists, central cabinet ministers and state chief ministers. The Forum will feature participation from 13 countries such as UK, USA, Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, India, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, UAE, Thailand and Switzerland. GBF 2015 will also comprise 200 industry partners and 50 global experts.
Many of India’s developmental challenges can be addressed through innovation and enterprise but it would require a new business model based upon improved dialogues between its education sector, government and the market place.
A recent McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) report on India has identified technologies in six sectors of the economy: financial services, education and skills, healthcare, agriculture and food, energy, and infrastructure that would have a combined economic impact of $550 billion to $1 trillion a year in India by 2025. Given the importance of these sectors to India’s developmental goals, GBF 2015 will also showcase technological innovation and expertise in Energy, Education & Skill Development, Healthcare, Environment (Water), Infrastructure, Smart Cities, Information & Communication Technology and Make-in-India (Manufacturing).
The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) ensure greater focus by facilitating continuous yearlong engagements and interactions. Attendees and participants may express interest in more than one SIG. The SIGs therefore retain flexibility for the future and are not boxed into strict vertical/horizontal segments.
