Background

As you are aware the Government of India, under the leadership of the Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, recently celebrated “Digital India Week”, which reinforced the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

To commemorate the occasion, FICCI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and IT, had organized the first ever CEOs’ roundtable chaired by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Hon'ble Minister of Communications & IT.
This seminar is a continuation of FICCI’s engagement with stakeholders in advancing Digital India’s policy objectives.

Wi-Fi and Smart Cities

In addition the Government has also launched a “100 Smart Cities” program, which includes   ICT enabled governance, as one of its key pillars. “Wi-Fi” is amongst the primary technologies that has the potential of delivering “smart” communications, in such cities.  Today, Wi-Fi is in 25% of global homes, and over 2 billion Wi-Fi devices were sold worldwide in 2013 alone. Wi-Fi adoption continues to grow in India and the common vision of connecting anyone and everything, anywhere, continues to inform the future course of technology development in Wi-Fi.

Meet Global Experts at the Half-Day Seminar

August 7, 2015, marks the one year anniversary of   “Digital India”.  To continue the commemoration of Digital India, FICCI in collaboration with Wireless Broadband Alliance, is organizing a half-day seminar, which will include speakers from 3 globally connected cities.  The experts will make presentations on the role Wi-Fi has played in providing “smart connections” in these 3 globally renowned cities. The seminar  looks to facilitate  thought provoking and candid discussions amongst key stakeholders  - government, service providers, equipment manufacturers and user agencies, to explore the opportunities  and challenges associated with the role Wi-Fi technology in delivering transformational connectivity to advance  the  “100 Smart Cities” program.
Discussions will touch upon the role of licensed and unlicensed wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi, for smart and connected cities. The outcome of the seminar is expected to inform decisions which will drive development, ecosystem collaboration, private – public partnerships and the role of industry in this space.
