EU ministers to hold emergency talks on September 14

EU home affairs ministers will hold emergency talks in Brussels on September 14 on the escalating migration crisis in Europe, AFP reports. The government of Luxembourg, which holds the EU’s six-month rotating presidency, said that the meeting is being convened “to assess the situation on the ground, the political actions underway and to discuss the next steps in order to strengthen the European response.” Nearly 340,000 migrants reached EU’s borders in the first seven months of 2015, which is nearly a three-fold increase compared to same period last year.

Egypt to hold parliamentary elections in October, November
Egypt’s parliamentary elections will be held in two stages, in October and November. Half of the country’s governorate will vote on October 18-19, while the second half will cast their votes on November 22-23 during the ‘second stage’ of the elections, the Head of the Supreme Election Committee, Ayman Abbas, said in a statement. Voters outside Egypt will cast ballots in a first stage on October 17-18, and a second stage on November 21-22. If required, the revote will also take place in two stages, on October 26-28 and November 30 – December 2. The registration period for candidates will begin on September 1 and will last 12 days. The official election results will be announced in December so that “Egypt will have a new legislature before the end of the year,” the Committee added.
