COMMISSIONING OF 20th FAST PATROL VESSEL (FPV)
ICGS AYUSH ON 18 FEB 17
Indian Coast
Guard Ship Ayush, the last in the series of twenty Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs),
designed and indigenously built by M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited, was commissioned
on 18 Feb 2017 at Kochi by Vice Admiral Abhay Raghunath Karve, AVSM, Flag
Officer Commanding-in- Chief (South) on 18 Feb 2017 in the presence of Additional
Director General K Natarajan, PTM, TM, Coast Guard Commander (Western
Seaboard). The ceremony was also attended by Inspector General VS Pathania,
PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (West), Inspector General Rajan Bargotra,
TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) and other senior dignitaries of the
Armed Forces, Central and State Govt.
The 50 mtr
FPV, ICGS Ayush displaces 421 tons of water and is equipped with
state-of-the-art Weaponry, Communication and Navigational equipment. The ship
is propelled by three advanced diesel engines coupled with three Rolls Royce
Jets to achieve a maximum speed of 33 Knots and has an endurance of 1500
nautical miles at economical speed of 14 knots. The ship is ideal platform for
undertaking multifarious close-coast missions such as surveillance, search and
rescue, interdiction and maritime law enforcement. The special features of the
ship include an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Machinery Control System (MCS)
and an indigenously built Gun Mount with fire control system.
The ship has
been christened ICGS “Ayush”, which literally means “Longevity” and will be based
at Krishnapatnam, under the administrative and operational control of the
Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), Chennai.
The
ship on joining the Coast Guard Fleet will enhance Coast Guard’s capability in
furthering its mandate of Maritime Safety, Maritime Security, Environmental
Protection and Coastal Security on the Eastern Seaboard.
ICGS Ayush
is commanded by Commandant (JG) Asheesh Sharma and has a compliment of 04
officers and 33 enrolled personnel.
