Four member committee to probe BHU incidents

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has said that a four member committee under chairmanship of Chief Secretary has been set up to probe into the Banaras Hindu University BHU series of incidents and actions will be taken on the basis of probe committee report. 

Talking to media persons this morning at Lucknow after offering floral tributes to RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya on his 100th birth anniversary Mr Naik criticised police lathi charge against the students and termed it a serious incident. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought reports from Varanasi Commissioner about police lathi charge on students and injury to journalists.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports Students and political parties` protests against the police lathi charge on students especially girls are still continuing at BHU. Workers of Samajwadi Party today demonstrated at BHU gate this morning but they were not allowed to enter into the campus.

An Additional City Magistrate, Circle Officer Bhelupur and SHO Lanka police station have been removed. Police has arrested 16 students last night from the campus siting on Dharana. 

Police has lodged FIR against 1000 unidentified students for violence and arson on the report of BHU administration. Four FIRs have been lodged in connection with BHU agitation including an FIR under IT act for spreading rumour on social media. 

All educational institutions in Varanasi including Kashi Vidya Peeth and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University have also been closed till October 2 in view of tension caused of BHU students agitation. BHU has already been closed till October 2 following students’ agitation.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ABVP has also organised Dharana against the police lathi charge on students. They have also demanded removal of Vice Chancellor. Students organised Dharana near Birla hostel and took out procession last night seeking removal of Vice Chancellor Prof Girish Chandra Tripathi.
