Global Hygiene Home Truths Study 2010
Sagar Media Inc: 21 October 2010
Dr. Narendra Saini, India Representative of the Global Hygiene Council, Mr. Chander Mohan Sethi, Chairman and Managing Director of Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd along with Dr. V K Monga, Chairman, Public Health Committee, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) unveiling the Home Hygiene Report 2010 at a press conference toady at Le’ Meredian.
Global Hygiene Home Truths Study 2010 was released today in the capital in collaboration with Dettol, the gold standard for germ protection brand from Reckitt Benckiser’s stable. The study, which was carried out in nine countries across the globe, showed it is not necessarily how frequently cleaning takes place that matters - but targeting the right areas with the
right cleaning method.
The study reveals that the most commonly used surfaces like the bathroom seals, inside fridges, kitchen towels and computer keyboards/ mouse pads were some of the most highly contaminated hygiene hotspots in homes worldwide.
Bathroom seals were the dirtiest site found worldwide, with over two thirds (70%) failing bacterial tests, and over half (56%) failing mould tests, despite over a third (37%) appearing clean.
The inside of fridges came a close second to bathroom seals, as nearly half (46%) of households worldwide failed bacterial contamination tests. Fridges were also one of the least cleaned items.
Kitchen towels were found to be unsatisfactory or unacceptably dirty in over a third (36%) of cases worldwide. Only 42% of global respondents change and clean their kitchen towels daily and 16% change them only when they looked dirty.
19% of computer keyboards were unsatisfactory and it was observed that people will eat and pass on bacteria via the computer.
Releasing the report; Mr. Chander Mohan Sethi, Chairman and Managing Director of Reckitt Benckiser ( India ) Ltd, said, “We believe, as a leader in germ protection, Dettol has a responsibility of educating public masses on correct hygiene practices. This year the study clearly indicates that certain areas in our homes are being neglected when it comes to hygiene. Taking forward our 2009 message of hand washing as our first line of defense, the study further indicates dirty hands can transfer bacteria onto surfaces around the home. Despite poor hygiene conditions in India and half (50%) of samples being unsatisfactory, 90% of households felt that the cleanliness in their home was spotless or satisfactory. Thus, it is recommended that proper cleaning is needed in the areas that seem to be missed.”
Dr. Narendra Saini, India Representative of the Global Hygiene Council, says, “It is imperative that we continue to spread awareness about improving hygiene at home and at the workplace. Bathroom seals and kitchen towels were the dirtiest sites even though they often appeared clean to the naked eye. Time spent cleaning is not as important as the quality of the cleaning carried out. ”
This is a concern, as evidence from existing studies shows a relationship between the presence of household mould or damp and an increase in the incidence of health problems such as fungal infections, respiratory illness, asthma and allergies. Effective cleaning of surfaces in homes is particularly important because the flu virus can remain infectious for up to 24 hours on stainless steel and plastic surfaces, and up to 48 hours on wooden surface

Fibromyalgia:Yoga the treatment
17.10.2010 02:04:28 Nksagar-Sagar Media:Comparison of the data for the two groups revealed that yoga appears to assist in combating a number of serious fibromyalgia symptoms, including pain, fatigue, stiffness, poor sleep, depression, poor memory, anxiety and poor balance. What Fibromyalgia Feels Like
Key Symptoms
* Pain all over
* Fatigue
* Brain fog
* Trouble sleeping
* Exercise difficulties
* Irritable bowel
* Headaches
* Jaw pain
* Multiple sensitivities
Find out how your symptoms and treatment plan measure up with others. Take our survey now and view the results.
Fibromyalgia produces widespread pain, disturbed sleep, and exhaustion from head to toe.1 Although the muscles hurt everywhere, they are not the only cause of your discomfort. Instead, the diffuse, body-wide symptoms are greatly magnified by malfunctions in the way the nervous system processes pain.Regional muscle pain also occurs in the majority of people with fibromyalgia.4 Patients experience firm knots in their muscles, often causing restricted movement and radiating pain.5 Recent research has found that 90 percent of the tender points used to diagnose fibro are actually myofascial trigger points.
(live-PR.com) - Yoga recommended exercises and easy postures which have the remedial power to cure fibromyalgia a medical disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain, according to new research conducted at Oregon Health & Science University.
“Previous research suggests that the most successful treatment for fibromyalgia involves a combination of medications, physical exercise and development of coping skills,” said James Carson, a clinical
health psychologist and an assistant professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine.
“Here, we specifically focused on yoga to determine whether it should be considered as a prescribed treatment and the extent to which it can be successful.”
In this study, researchers enrolled 53 female study subjects previously diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The women were randomly assigned to two research groups. The first group participated in an eight-week yoga program, which included gentle poses, meditation, breathing exercises and group discussions.
The second group of women -- the control group -- received standard medication treatments for fibromyalgia. Following completion of the yoga program, researchers assessed each study subject using questionnaires and physical tests. The results were then compared with testing results obtained prior to the yoga classes. The members of the control group underwent the same evaluations. In addition, each participant in the yoga group was urged to keep a daily diary to personally assess their condition throughout the entire program.
Comparison of the data for the two groups revealed that yoga appears to assist in combating a number of serious fibromyalgia symptoms, including pain, fatigue, stiffness, poor sleep, depression, poor memory, anxiety and poor balance. All of these improvements were shown to be not only statistically but also clinically significant, meaning the changes were large enough to have a practical impact on daily functioning. For example, pain was reduced in the yoga group by an average of 24 percent, fatigue by 30 percent and depression by 42 percent.
“One likely reason for the apparent success of this study therapy was the strong commitment shown by the study subjects. Attendance at the classes was good as was most participants’ willingness to practice yoga while at home,” added Carson.
“Based on the results of this research, we strongly believe that further study of this potential therapy is warranted.” The research is being published in the November 10 online edition of the journal Pain and appears online Thursday, Oct. 14.

CWG delay due to multiplicity of authority

(live-PR.com) - Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit put square blame on multiplicity of authority for delays and other problems in the run-up to Commonwealth Games, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said there should have been a single command at the Central government level to ensure proper coordination among those involved.
She said lack of coordination posed a "huge problem" and projects
were delayed because of procedural issues and clearances for the mega sporting event that began on October three.
"With this huge diversity and multiplicity of authority in Delhi, everything had to be coalesced before a decision could be taken. So we were racing against time, racing to meet the objectives or whatever it may be, to bring everybody on board, even if it is construction of a road or making a flyover," she told PTI in an interview.
But for projects matter pertaining to Delhi she is focal authority and for anything of games infrastructure it was the ministers concern with OC CWG Chair. With such massive construction in place in Delhi but you will still find the technocrats short of their instruments and even the technical staff may not carry their respective tools.What a Pity on the state of affairs.

Nksagar India win 5Gold,4 silver,2 bronze
05.10.2010 07:32:18 Oct 5, 2010 -New Delhi: Nksagar-Sagar Media :
Abhinav Bindra & Gagan Narang Pair won first gold medal for India in the Pairs 10 M Air Rifle Mens event at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.Bindra scored 595 and Narang scored 498.
(live-PR.com) - Today on second day of CWG 2010 Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang win gold medal in Pairs 10m air rifle and created Commonwealth Games record.
India win their three Gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Wrestling: Ravinder Singh wins Gold in Men's Greco-Roman 60 kg Final, Anil Kumar brought golds for India in the 96 kg and Sanjay brought gold in 74 kg Greco-Roman category.
India stands second in medal ally with total five gold and 2 silvers.
The first day of CWG India have begun their medal hunt in the Delhi Commonwealth Games by scooping up two Silver and two Bronze medals. The hosts won the medals from the weightlifting arena on the first day of competitions yesterday.Women lifters Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Devi Rani opened the medal chest for India by grabbing the silver and bronze in the 48 kg class. Augustina Nwaokolo of Nigeria won the event and claimed the honour of winning the first Gold of the Games, with a Games record adding to its luster.
Later in the day, in the men's 56 kg class, Sukhen Dey and V Srinivasa Rao clinched the silver and bronze respectively behind winner Ibrahim Amirul Hamizan of Malaysia.
Chanu, favourite for the 48 kg gold medal, could not justify her billing and settled for silver by clearing 167 kg which was eight kg below the gold medal winning performance by the Nigerian. Sandya Rani took the bronze with a total clearance of 165 kg.
Dey picked up the silver with a total lift of 252 kg, while Rao collected the bronze with a total of 248 kg. The Malaysian's title-winning effort was 257 kg.
The first day of competitions began with an epoch-making maiden entry into the final by India's men's freestyle swimming quartet of Virdhawal Khade, Anshul Kothari, Arjun Jayaprakash and Aaron D'Souza. The foursome finished sixth in the morning heats to make the evening final where they finished in the same position clocking 3 minutes, 27.14 seconds. It's the first time that in swimming the country had been represented in the final in the Commonwealth Games.
Two other Indian swimmers - Badrinath Melkote in men's 50 metres backstroke and Shubha Chittaranjan in women's 50metres butterfly - qualified for the semi finals by ending up 14th and 16th in the heats. Both were, however, eliminated in the evening semi finals. But all other swimmers sunk without making a splash.
In tennis, India put up a dominant display as all three singles players recorded easy wins. Rohan Bopanna, Rushmi Chakravarthi and Poojashree Venkatesh scored facile victories against weak opponents. The star pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza entered the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles by crushing St Lucia's duo Stacey Nykita Roheman and Alberton Richelieu in straight sets in just 39 minutes.The only blot on India's otherwise perfect day was the three-set defeat of Bopanna and Nirupama Sanjeev against the top seeded Australian pair of Paul Hanley and Anastasia Rodionova in the mixed doubles first round.
Indian shuttlers also kick-started their campaign with a 5-0 clean sweep over Kenya in the mixed team event.India, however, were stunned 3-2 by New Zealand in the women's table tennis team competition after having blanked Sri Lanka in their Group D campaign opener.
The country's hopes in squash suffered a major blow when top woman player Dipika Pallikal pulled out following a bout of mild fever. But rising stars Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa kept the tri-colour fluttering in the singles event as India wrapped up a mixed opening day. Both Ghosal and Chinappa progressed into the pre-quarters of the men's and women's singles event respectively, but their chances of advancing further look extremely difficult as both are pitched against higher ranked opponents today. While the 24-year-old Goshal will play third seed Englishman Peter Barker in the last-16 round, Chennai-girl Chinappa will be up against current world number one Nicol David of Malaysia.
Indian archers began their campaign in style, with the men's and women's recurve teams finishing on top ahead of today's elimination round. Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar topped the men's section, while Deepika Kumari and Dola Banerjee dominated the women's field.Former world champion Deepika scored 609 and that was enough to claim top position in women's individual recurve section, with compatriot Dola Banerjee finishing second best.
In hockey, Indian women were held 1-1 by Scotland in a pool match.
