Former chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) M S Verma appeared before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) as a witness for the second day on Friday.Briefing newspersons, JPC Chairman P C Chacko said, he informed the Committee that the then NDA Government did not seek opinion of the telecom regulator on the issue of allocating excess spectrum to some private companies in 2002.
Mr. Verma headed TRAI between March, 2000 and March 2003.Mr. Chacko said during Verma's three-year tenure, TRAI did not make any suo motu recommendation to the Government on any issue.JPC chairman said while TRAI recommendations were not binding on the Government, such matters were expected to be referred to TRAI.
