Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India

The government plans to create a Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI),  which will become the single window approver of genetically modified (GM) food in our country. Genetic modification involves inserting a gene from other organisms like bacteria, virus and even animals into our food, making it risky for human consumption. The bill to create this body can be tabled anytime in Parliament.
