February 20, 2012 – Jaipur Polo Ground was pulsating with exhilaration
and high speed spirits as the spectators witnessed a fine exposition of
Polo to lift the prestigious H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup
2012 Trophy. In a closely contested finals, Jindal Steel & Power led
by Member of Parliament Mr. Naveen Jindal defeated the young Trident
Group-IPG team in extra time. The H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold
Cup in association with Land-Rover commenced from 15th February at the
Jaipur Polo Ground inside Delhi Race Course, New Delhi. The Gold Cup is a
charity polo tournament played each year in the aid of the ‘Rajmata
Shrimant Vijaya Raje Scindia Centre for Development’. The event also saw
a lineup of Vintage Jaguar car owners driving their collection on the
field before the final matchup.
Speaking on the occasion, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Patron of the tournament, said “Polo provides sponsors a unique platform to showcase their brands. I am delighted that this amazing sport is now, through my family’s tournament, also fulfilling a social responsibility. All the proceeds from the event go to a charity – RSVRSCD. Since its inception in 1997, the Scindia Gold Cup has done from strength to strength and has today become one of the most popular tournaments amongst the players and audiences.” This trophy was presented to the Polo Club by the Late Rajmata Shrimant Vijaya Raje Scindia of Gwalior in memory of her husband H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia in February 1997. An excellent polo player, H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia was also a great promoter of this royal sport during his time.

Teams from around the country and some of the sport’s top professional players competed in this 10-goal tournament This year, the Championship was contested by six teams – Jindal Steel & Power, Cavalry, ASC – Navy, Cavalry – USPA, Panasonic and Trident Group – IPG.
Contributing partners were Godrej, Tata Consultancy Services, Idea, Reliance Mutual Fund, Panasonic and Jaypee. The tournament was supported by The Leela Palace New Delhi for Hospitality & United Spirits Ltd. For beverages.
