Mawana Sugar Indian Open Marathon ,one of the oldest marathons, with the status of National
Championship by AFI, has seen a large number of entries as the date of the race is scheduled on Sunday,February 19 to be flagged off from India Gate at 7.30AM ,the race will run through some of the most scenic parts of the capital before and winds its way to the India gate for the finish.
The leading runners entered this year are Ranjit Singh, Elam Singh, P.S Meena, Shamsher Antil and Pritam Singh.The women's defending champion, Shastri Devi will, to be at the start line to try and keep her title
"Giving men and women equal prize money is part of our policy and commitment to provide equal opporunity and empowerment to women sportsperson," said Mr Sidharath Shriram,Chairman,Mawana Sugar Limited.
The last date for entry is februrary 13,2012 and the entry fee has been kept at nominal Rs 50 per runner.
Marathon is open to all men and women above the age of 18 Years as on 19 February 2012 for Full and Half Marathon.
Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon is one of the oldest marathons in the country. This marathon was started as the Rath Marathon in 1982 and was renamed in 2006.“Around 6,000 runners have already registered their name, we expect around 8,000 people to participate in the race. The entry will close on Feb. 18”, said Rajesh Tara, secretary, Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon.
