North Korea invited the international media for glimpse of a
long-range rocket installed on a launch pad. Western nations consider
the rocket to be a ballistic missile.North Korea invited on Sunday about 60 journalists from 19 countries to the launch pad in the country's northwestern province of Pyongan-pukdo.
Spokesperson of the North Korea says it intends to launch a satellite between April 12th and 16th.
Three stages of the 30-meter long rocket have been assembled on the launch pad at Tongchang-ri. It is weighing 91 tons and is marked with the North Korean flag and the name "Milky Way Three" in Korean. Four engine nozzles could be seen on the first stage. The North also showed journalists the satellite it says it plans to launch. It features solar panels and is bristling with cameras and antennas.
The person in charge of the launch facility said the machinery is in place for the rocket to lift off at any time after it is fueled and the satellite mounted.The person added that fuel can be injected quickly from the basement on the facility, but offered no details on the cost of development or improvements to the rocket.
