Luzon Island has been hit by downpours from a moist monsoon flowing in from the southwest after a typhoon approached the country in late July.About 5,500 military and police officers are continuing search and rescue operations.
Rain in the country's capital Manila let up on Wednesday morning, and the level of the Marikina River in the northeastern part of the city fell slightly. But houses and shops in the area remain inundated.
The government says more torrential rain is likely as early as this evening, and is calling on the public to stay on alert.
