Taiwan’s DPP re-elects Tsai as party chair

26052014

Taiwan’s largest opposition Democratic Progressive Party has again elected Tsai Ing-wen as the party’s leader.
Tsai garnered 93.7 percent of the vote in Sunday’s election to replace outgoing DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang.
Tsai is expected to assume the post on Wednesday and take charge of the island-wide local elections in November.
Tsai previously served 2 terms as DPP chief. She stepped down in 2012 after losing the presidential race to pro-China leader Ma Ying-jeou.
Tsai is expected to run for the presidency in 2016 to try and retake power from the governing Nationalist Party. Media agencies
