Avalanches caused by heavy winter snows killed at least 124 people in northeast Afghanistan, AP reported, citing an emergency official. The avalanches buried homes across four northeast provinces. The Panjshir province, about 100 kilometers of the capital, Kabul, appeared to be worst hit. The avalanches reportedly destroyed or damaged around 100 homes there.
