BJP President Amit Shah today said Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has offered to resign and her letter will be placed before party’s Parliamentary Board.
He said the board will take a final decision on the resignation and new name of the Chief Minister.
Mr. Shah told media in New Delhi that the Chief Minister has cited age as the reason behind her decision.
Ms. Patel’s decision came in the backdrop of Patidar agitation by the Patel community for reservation and recent protests in the state by dalits after Una incident.
It is believed that BJP leadership was not happy the way she handled both the issues.
In a post on social media, Mrs. Patel has asked the party high command to start process of selecting a new Chief Minister of the state.
Mrs. Patel said in a televised statement that she want to pave the way for younger leaders in the party to take charge.
